This position is located in Dallas, Texas.
Position OverviewPerform engineering studies and protective relay configuration, for large petrochemical facilities.
This position requires application of engineering principles and knowledge of HV and MV substation design.
The job requires a practical emphasis on coordination, development, review and verification of protection schemes and protection device settings.
Position DescriptionEmployee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions: Work with project and/or commissioning team to verify or modify design documents and drawings for a project, including wiring diagrams and bills of materials, and applying field mark-ups of project as-built drawings to develop protective relay settings with minimal supervisionPerform Engineering support tasks such as relay burden, load flow, short circuit and protective device coordination calculations and develop logical settings with minimal supervisionApply engineering application software (including SKM, ETAP, ASPEN and Vendor software) to complete engineering tasks such as ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, and load flow and short circuit studies with minimal supervisionReview project schedules and work with project engineer to insure projects remain on scheduleApply engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSIProperly use the document management system and the QA/QC proceduresFollow, Apply and Improve corporate standard engineering practicesSupervise project activitiesCommunicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, project engineer, customer representatives, and others as neededTake personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her workBring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible partyMay spend time at job sites to aid the substation construction and commissioning personnelTravel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignmentsPrepare estimates and draft proposal for performing engineering study and relay setting work.
Position RequirementsBachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
(MS is preferred)Licensed PE (preferred)10-15 years of power engineering and 3-5 years of related experience in protective system design is required.
(Experience working for a utility is preferred.
